Dog Day Afternoon
Shake's Frozen Custard at 17th and Arvonia (behind Kohl's) hosted Dog Day Afternoon on Saturday, August 26, 2006.
This was a fund raiser for Friend's of Hill's Bark Park and Shawnee County Paw Prints 4-H Club. The community was invited to come for activities all afternoon. Friend's of Hills Bark Park was there to promote the leash free dog park in Gage Park and to raise funds to make improvements there. The 4-H Agility group had their equipment set up from 1 PM to 5 PM for demonstrations. Visitors were invited to go through the course with their dog, for a five dollar fee that benefited the Paw Prints 4-H group and Hill's Bark Park. Two Heart's Pet Salon provided FREE nail trims for your dog. The Solid Rock Sound Machine Mobile Entertainment Service was spinning tunes from the 50s and 60s for a Sock-Hop with your dogs from 6PM to 8 PM. Shakes also had free puppy cups of frozen custard for your four legged friends. For safety reasons, the sponsors asked everyone to keep their dogs on lead at all times.
